Don't you just love the Court Jester? I don't know why that title came to me today...it's from a hilarious scene with Danny Kaye in The Court Jester...a classic film. Get it? Got it? Good!
This morning I went to the YMCA and did 30 minutes on the elliptical...what a workout! Then I went to pick up Anna from Leia's house. Sarah & I chatted some more about the experience last night and I asked Anna about it. Apparently Anna was told not to cross the barrier into the deep end. After a few questions to Anna it was obvious she had no clue what a "barried" was...ha ha. Silly me, she wasn't being disobedient--she just didn't understand the rules. A little lightbulb clicked and we were soon back on track. We came home, showered, ate lunch and went to the church to watch the first session of General Conference. It was amazing. Seriously--it seemed like almost every talk was directly meaningful for me. And did you notice that 2 talks today focused on music?? Yeah, I felt like they were saying, "Jill Pierce, listen up---here is how you can improve the music and more fully magnify your calling...." Yeah. So. I have several ideas how I can improve myself and I'm excited about it!
So we went to both of the sessions at the church, along with the other 12 people who came--most people stay home and watch Conference. I grew up doing that but Tyler wants to get dressed up & go to the church. I must admit, I learn more that way...and when we have listened to the internet at home---it was chaos trying to listen and be completely into it when Anna would run through the room with her toys, etc. This works for us, I'm grateful to have my husband, he's so good to us. :)
Anna's in bed and Tyler's at the Priesthood session. I cleaned the kitchen & living room. I'm thinking to re-re-re-re-organize the C2 room. It actually wouldn't take very long to tidy it up and I'd like to be able to finish going through my scrapbooking pictures and get them chronologically in order.
Easter is next week: what are your plans?
Don’t give up. Don’t you quit. You keep walking. You keep trying. There is help and happiness ahead. You keep your chin up. It will be all right in the end. Trust God and believe in good things to come. Some blessings come soon, some come late, and some don’t come until heaven; but for those who embrace the gospel of... Jesus Christ, they come. -Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

Heart Stopping Moment
Anna & I went to the YMCA around 9am this morning. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill, followed by 20 minutes of arm weights & 10 minutes on the elliptical. Great workout. The kids played on the mats afterwards. I came home and began baking/cooking b/c the missionaries were coming over for dinner tonight--or so I thought--so I made a 3 layer strawberries & cream cake, homemade lasagne, etc...around 1pm, I thought I should probably confirm that the missionaries were still coming--although, everything for the meal was already done at that point--I left a message and continued on with my day which included playing some games with Anna and getting her ready for her big night: Madison's birthday party at the Rec Center followed by a sleepover at Leia's house. The Rec Center had a pool area for kids and I hadn't found any flip flops/sandals for Anna yet, so we made a quick trip to the goodwill down the road while the lasagne was baking. For $1.99 I found some Disney Princess sandals just in Anna's size--can you believe it??? They even light up like Anna's Disney Princess "fast shoes" do. Incredible that I only paid $1.99 for them--they're in great condition, too! Anyhow, when I got back from goodwill, I checked our messages and heard a message from the missionaries saying that they weren't able to make it for dinner....oh, my...I have this HUGE cake in the fridge and a lasagne baking...oh well. This completely changed our evening--I had made arrangements for Anna to go to the birthday party with Leia who would be taken by her mom BECAUSE the missionaries were coming over for dinner. So our plans changed, but everything was already in order for Anna to go so I didn't change the plans I'd made with Sarah. Tyler & I worked in the garden putting down grass seed and preparing our square garden to be planted. We got a call from Trent & Valene inviting us over for some games. We played SCUM and it was really fun. Halfway through, Tyler got my cell phone from the car and I saw 2 missed calls from Sarah. UH-OH, I thought, what happened. I called her back and she started off by saying that everything was now okay but that Anna had been swimming at the party and had gone too deep in the water area even though she had been TOLD not to go that far, she went out with her friend, Sariah, and twice was helped out by some other adults and the THIRD time a lifeguard had to jump in & save her. WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!! First of all, she knew not to go further into the deep end of the water and did anyways. Second of all...it made me feel like a lousy parent for not being there with her---watching her every second. I had previously spoken with Madison's mom & told her that I would not be attending the party and asked if that would be all right, to which she said it would be fine. Tyler says that I did everything right and was a careful parent concerning the whole situation. It just makes me sick that my sweet 5-year-old could have drowned this evening and I wasn't there to ensure it didn't happen. I'm so grateful that Heavenly Father was watching out for her. I've heard of children drowning at birthday parties because people aren't paying attention--I'm grateful for those who did pay attention to my little Anna. Of course, I have mixed feelings about the whole situation--I'm frustrated that Anna didn't listen & obey the rules, but I'm so grateful & relieved that she's okay. If I'd known about what had happened earlier in the evening, I think I would have gone & brought Anna home from Leia's house and foregone the whole sleepover---she wasn't listening & obeying and it could have hurt her!!! My heart stops just thinking that she may have not lived through the night....sick, sick feeling. It hurts to be a Mom.

Non-Stop Day
Today I went to work out at the YMCA, then hurried home to shower both Anna & myself before we headed on-base for my appointment with the infertility specialist. Once we reached the gate and my id was being checked, I heard my daughter throw-up in the back seat. WHAT?!? Yeah, so cream of wheat (sorry for the mental image) was all over her and the car seat. Poor little thing. It was good that Tyler was meeting me for the appointment--so he could turn around and take Anna home and put her in the tub. My meeting went well. Dr. Groll stated my two options if we do not conceive this cycle. #1. We can up the dosage of clomid to 200 and combine that with insemination. #2. We can move on to injections combined with insemination. I chose to try the clomid with insemination at least for one cycle. Then, if unsuccessful, we'll move on to the injections. FUN STUFF.
After I got home, Anna was doing just fine. I'm not sure what happened and why she threw up--but has been just fine for the rest of the day. She went to school and the piano tuner came. My poor piano has never been tuned to my knowledge--I'm not even sure how old it is, because it was my Great Aunt's piano that she gave me. After he left, I took a 2 hour nap...ahhh. Tyler came home, ate some food and then rushed off to Columbus for his classes. I made brazilian estroganof for dinner--delicious--and we went over to Shannon's house. We ate dinner and I highlighted Shannon's hair. I'm not a professional hairdresser--I just have experience in highlighting hair. Her hair turned out really well. :) Then we watched an extremely cheesy film, The highwayman and the Lady...with a VERY young Hugh Grant.
All for now.

Family History
We woke up & went to the YMCA. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill followed by 10 minutes on the elliptical. It felt great--I love how I feel after exercising...afterwards we went by wal-mart, which is on the way home, to buy some groceries. I made some lunch and then Anna & I went outside to wait for the bus. It's usually on time and sometimes even early...today it was 20 minutes late! When the bus did arrive the driver said they had broken down...this somehow did not make me feel especially comfortable in letting her board the bus--would it even make it to the school? Somehow it did...
I went to do some family history today--I basically checked out the floppy disk that my Mom sent with all the work she's done in the past. One line went back 15 generations---pretty cool. Afterwards I headed home (about 15-20 drive) and talked to Tyler (who is currently on a date with Anna) and he mentioned that they were going out to eat. Of course this made me hungry...so I found a few fast food places and decided upon Arbys--roast beef, gotta love it! As I looked at the food options I noticed they had a 5 items for $5.95. Hmmm, not a bad price, but I can't eat 1 curly fries, 1 cheese sticks, 1 arby melt, 1 ham melt & 1 strawberry shake....so I opted to just buy one regular roast beef sandwich: $2.60 is what I paid. Isn't that crazy? For just one sandwich I paid half of their $5.95 deal. Of course, I could make it worse and wonder just how much one of those sandwiches is worth--you know, like the bun probably cost 13 cents and the roast beef about 75 cents...but I digress...
I came home to an empty house after talking with Lauren on the drive home--she's now living in TX--it's kind of crazy being home alone. I hadn't planned on it--Tyler was going to take Anna out on a date earlier in the day...but they had a late start. So I read my scriptures and some of the Square Gardening book. Now I'm going through some classical music to find pieces for some people in the ward for our Ward Classical Recital in May.

Recovering
When your husband takes 3 days off to be home it is a wonderful thing. We do things we haven't gotten around to--like building our square garden, etc--and spend lots of time together as a family. It's been wonderful! However, after things return to normal--the recovering begins. The laundry that has been piled up must be done and put away, the dishes, the vacuuming, sweeping, etc...it all has to be done. And that's what I did today. I couldn't start on it yesterday because it was Tyler's birthday. So I did it today. Plus I also managed to crack some wheat that I purchased (the wheat that took 3 months to arrive from ID--crazy) and I made some cracked wheat bread. It is seriously some amazing bread. I personally like to put butter & honey on it--but homemade jam is also delicious. mmmmmm. Homemade bread just makes me happy.
I went to workout at the YMCA. I'd missed it! I didn't exercise on Sunday-naturally-and yesterday because of my back. It felt great to exercise. I went to weigh myself and was perplexed when it showed 331 pounds. Hmmmm. I started out at 333 pounds, then last tuesday I lost 4 pounds putting me to 329, but today-one week of 5 workouts later-it showed that I'd gained 2 of those precious 4 pounds back...*sniff* I talked with Shannon and she said that she gained weight when beginning her workout regiment. *sigh* I hope that's all it is, because when I'm working this hard I kind of would like some, well you know, WEIGHT LOSS to be happening...never fear, I'm not giving up. I like working out at the YMCA. :)
Tyler started his 2nd quarter in his MBA program today. Tonight was enrichment and Shannon picked us up. It was such a wonderful evening. We wore princess crowns that we decorated with jewels, we sang songs, had some fun races--no, not running, in doing our "princess duties" like sweeping the floor, washing a dish, sewing a button, etc. We had 4 teams and it was really fun. The musical number that I organized went really well. The Spirit was strong when they sang.
It's now after 11pm, and I need to get to bed. I'm recovering from the day...

Happy Birthday Tyler!!!
Well Tyler turned the big 29 today. He went to work early--he's on a 6am wake-up kick. I didn't workout today because I strained my back yesterday. I wasn't even doing anything really crazy either--just strained it. Tyler, my unofficial doctor, recommended that I not overdo it today. Since he has history with back pain--I followed his advice and skipped my YMCA visit, which upset Anna...however, I feel fine today so I plan to return to the Y tomorrow morning. HOORAY! I've never had back pain before--I'm such a wimp when it comes to pain. *sigh* My poor husband has it pretty often and he rarely complains. What a man!
Fertility update: yesterday my ovulation prediction kit showed a positive reading which means that I should have ovulated either last night, today or possibly tomorrow. (Kristina or Deena--is that right?? I seem to remember it happens within 2-3 days from a positive reading) ANYHOW. That's more progress. I hoped that clomid would be my ticket to ovulation and so far I've had 2 positive readings now. YAY!
Tyler came home for lunch--we had crepes. We put some leftover homemade cherry pie filling (leftover from the Black Forest Cake that I made for our company yesterday + for Tyler's birthday cake; it's a HUGE cake) in the crepes instead of strawberries and topped it with real whipped cream. mmmmm. The cherries were good, although it was hard for me to get over not having strawberries in them for a birthday. If you know me--you know how I love TRADITIONS!!! My theme song could be that "TRADITIONS" song from FIDDLER ON THE ROOF! In fact, Tyler sometimes sings that song to me when I won't budge on a certain tradition...I'm so stubborn sometimes! At least I'm married to a man who doesn't mind it...you're the best, Tyler!
I went to the rehearsal for the musical number for tomorrow's enrichment meeting--they're singing MY SISTER'S HANDS written by Sally Deford--who composes music that you can download for free at defordmusic.com. The song is going to be lovely. :) Then I taught Lea a voice lesson. She's really coming along-even gained a note in her upper range. :)
For Tyler's birthday dinner we had steaks, baked potatoes, italian cheese bread, & broccoli with cheese sauce. It was really yummy and way too much food. We have leftovers, but can you really eat a leftover baked potato or steak? It doesn't seem like you could. After dinner we went over to Andrew & Angie's house to eat the Black Forest Cake I'd made plus some ice cream, VELVET brand---I MISS BRAUMS!!! *sniff* Melisa, perhaps you could bring me some Braums on your way up here?? I miss that place. Anyhow, I didn't try the VELVET brand ice cream...it looked okay. After cake and chatting it up we played some cities & knights. I know that you should always let the birthday boy/girl win on their day--but I won! I've never won on the cities & knights version, so it was especially exciting. Tyler has won every game we've played with that expansion previous to tonight. For his birthday I bought him the game BATTLESHIP, plus a fancy insulated lunchbox and a collared white shirt for church. It was a fun day, at least I hope Tyler enjoyed it. Here's a few pictures:

Tyler making steaks for dinner--I made everything else so don't feel bad for him having to do a little cooking...plus, what man doesn't want to GRILL!

Anna playing outside while Tyler grilled. She loves to play outside...

On a serious note, I have reason to repent. I pray to my dear Heavenly Father for opportunities to serve others. Then today I was asked by a sweet friend of mine for some help. I'm frustrated with myself for not just jumping at the chance to help her out. I want to apologize to you--since I know you read this blog. I'm planning to come over on wednesday--it's already written on my planner so I hope you won't try to talk me out of it. I'm ready & willing to help you in any way. You're my friend and you've always been ready & willing to help me. I love you. Please forgive me.

I Love My Calling
Today we had a good attendance in choir. Next week is General Conference and the following week is Easter Sunday and the choir is scheduled to sing this amazing arrangement of The Lord's Prayer. So I figured that we wouldn't have a practice next week due to GC--but my faithful choir members volunteer to meet for an hour next week so the song will be more prepared for Easter Sunday. I love my calling.
After church we had a couple over for dinner. It was a great meal and we enjoyed chatting with them--and finding things we had in common. I'm not sure exactly why--but I felt like I had to impress this person. She's beautiful, intelligent, dresses very well, ect...and I felt like everything had to be PERFECT to impress her. And the meal looked wonderful as did the cake I made. All in all, after we ate I felt like she's wasn't this goddess who was beyond my reach of ever attaining...she was actually kind of like me. We had some good things in common and that helped close the gap. And no, that doesn't mean I'll be dressing especially well now that we have stuff in common--I just think I didn't have to impress her to become friends with her. Make sense?
The weather was GORGEOUS today. It's in the 70s here and it has that SPRING smell outside....mmmmm. We went on a little family walk down the road and saw several other people out enjoying themselves. :)
I organized a little sextet for the Enrichment Meeting on Tuesday. That's right, on tuesday just 2 days from now. I invited 6 girls to learn a song they didn't know and we had a practice tonight with one more scheduled tomorrow and then just before enrichment on tuesday. Did I say that I love my calling? These people here in my ward are so amazing! Everyone is willing to participate in music, which makes my calling so easy. I love it.

Square Garden
Yesterday we went to the YMCA. Sarah & I went VT then went to "Old Macdonalds" for lunch and letting the kids run around before our second appointment for VT. Meanwhile, Tyler & Nathan were at Lowe's purchasing materials for our handy dandy Square Garden! We're excited to see if we can grow something. :) Emma & Anna had some fun romping around in the backyard...it's been raining the past few days and it was VERY muddy--but the girls had a nice time while their dads worked in the rain, too. After they built our square garden, we went over to Nathan's house for dinner. Heather made some yummy tacos; we played cities & knights--way fun!
Today I dropped Anna off at the Primary activity and went to the YMCA to workout. Afterwards we came home and did some cleaning around the house with Tyler. I also made another Black Forest Cake--at Tyler's request--for our company tomorrow + for his birthday on Monday. The weather was SO BEAUTIFUL today...well, at least the temperature. The sun didn't shine much, but it was warm and smelled like spring...

I Love To See The Temple
This morning we all 3 packed up and went to the YMCA. Afterwards Tyler dropped Anna & I off at Deanna's where Sarah & her kids met us for some VT (visiting teaching). We had a nice visit and then Sarah dropped us off at home. We ate lunch and then Anna got on the bus. Tyler went to Daniel's house to see if he needed any help since his car accident. I took a shower and got ready to go to the temple. I made some homemade pizza for dinner, we ate and then dropped Anna off at Emma & Moriah's house to play. Tyler & I went to the temple. We were asked to be the witness couple--our first time to do it. I was so nervous but all went extremely well. In fact, I felt my mind was opened up and understood more than any previous visit except perhaps the first time I went. It was so wonderful. :) I found out today that my Grandma has a leaky valve in her heart and that she won't be pursuing surgery. This prompted me to go visit her this summer, as I would be devastated if she passed away without my seeing her again. We're planning to come for one week in early June. We also have the idea to use our video camera and "interview" all our grandparents (that are still living, of course) about their lives and childhood memories, etc. I want to have those before any of them pass away. Hearing about my Grandma's leaky valve was really difficult for me. I love my grandma. She has set the standard for what a Grandma should be. She has loved me, encouraged me, disciplined me, and shown me what it means to serve your family and not shirk your responsibilities. My life wouldn't be the same without her influence. She's an elect lady.

Time Off
Tyler took today and the rest of the week off to spend with us. A little "spring break," if you will. It's so nice to have him all to ourselves! This morning we went to the YMCA to workout, came home & showered, went to consign on-base (in the truck-when we have more kids we won't have any more "family outtings" in it due to space constraints), we dropped by Kathey's house to check out her square garden then picked up some Wendy's on the way home. Nathan & Heather came over around 1:30pm and they just left to go home--it's 11:45pm. Tyler & Nathan built two square gardens while I made dinner and looked at some photoshop ideas with Heather. After dinner we taught them to play Settlers of Catan, actually the Cities & Knights which is an expansion of Settlers--more rules = more fun! They enjoyed learning/playing which made it great for us. (we're only somewhat obsessed...)
I'm not sure what's on the agenda for tomorrow, but we're planning to go to the temple tomorrow night! I can't wait-it's been almost 3 months since we went, I really miss it!

4
I went to the YMCA and did 30 minutes on the treadmill, 30 minutes on weight machines doing arms and 10 minutes on the elliptical. I weighed myself at 329. Last tuesday I weighed 333--so I lost 4 pounds! HOORAY! I'm excited to see some progress, I really think that exercising 6 days a week will help me. In my past I focused more on food and only exercised when it was convenient--now I exercise 6 days a week and focus on eating more healthy foods. It seems to be working! :)
After Anna went to school I did some cleaning/laundry around the house. When she came home we went to the bank, Target, & Wal-mart. I bought some sandals and pink sheets for Anna's bed and sage green sheets for my bed. I am thinking that during the spring/summer I will use more vibrant colored sheets and use my darker ones in the wintertime...I'm sure there's people who figured this little idea out LONG ago, but I just thought of it! Black satin sheets just don't mix with sunshine and warm weather!!!
We had taco salad for dinner, played chutes & ladders with Anna, put her to bed...and now I'm not sure what we're doing tonight. Tyler took off the rest of the week so he'll be home which will be nice. He had thought to start putting up a fence in the backyard, but didn't feel right about it...so we're rethinking it. We are thinking to put up a square garden, though. :)
After Anna went to school I did some cleaning/laundry around the house. When she came home we went to the bank, Target, & Wal-mart. I bought some sandals and pink sheets for Anna's bed and sage green sheets for my bed. Hysterosalpingogram
This morning Anna & I headed off to the YMCA. I did the treadmill for 30 minutes followed by leg weights (my personal favorite) and 10 minutes on the elliptical. Then Anna played with Leia, Spencer, & Nathan in the Mat room while Sarah & I chatted. It began to rain while we were there and it was POURING when we left...nothing like cold rain to cool you off from a workout.
Tyler got home just as Anna was heading out to the bus. Tyler & I ate some lunch and I took some motrin and off we went to the hospital for my HSG procedure. I was pretty nervous about it--not to mention that I have a very LOW pain tolerance. A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) is an X-ray of the uterus and fallopian tubes which allows visualization of the inside of the uterus and tubes. The picture will reveal any abnormalities of the uterus as well as tubal problems such as blockage and dilation. So they put some dye in my uterus and took some pictures. It caused the uterus to cramp quite a bit, which wasn't fun. Did I mention that I have a low pain tolerance? Anyhow, Tyler was so sweet and supportive and gentle with me. I greatly appreciated it. :) We went to the commissary afterwards and then got home just before Anna's bus arrived.
Tyler & Anna watched Peter Pan--Anna watched, Tyler slept--while I did some dishes and put the groceries away. We had an FHE lesson on Prophets, ate dinner, organized Anna's room, ate some chocolate cake, played a game of trouble and now Tyler's putting Anna to bed. BUSY DAY! Tyler put in to take a few days off this week. He wants to put up part of a fence in our backyard...the only snag is that the weather is predicting some rain...we'll see what happens!

Night Owls
I was so pleased to see several people show up at choir practice this morning. When they sang The Lord's Prayer, the Spirit was SO strong! It was beautiful!! I hope they all will continue to come so we can sing well on Easter Sunday in 3 weeks. :)
After church I came home, made lunch and then took a NAP! We were up late last night getting to bed by 1am and waking up at 7am this morning. *sigh* Plus, as you can see, it's already 12:20am and I'm not ready for bed yet. *heavy sigh* After my nap, I went with Nathan & Heather to Stake Choir practice. It was wonderful! Nothing like the last time I went...I don't know why I didn't enjoy myself the first time. I think I was looking to sing something challenging & I sightread the whole cantana easily. But the music is very moving & emotional--so that's nice. Afterwards the Pitchers came over to have some chocolate cake that I'd made for Tyler (we don't need a whole cake with only 3 people in the family). They came over at 9pm and left at midnight. We had a great time and the girls played so well. Of course, Anna went to bed almost immediately after they left---such a tired baby! Anyhow, they're really nice. We've been wanting to find some more families to do things with and they seem like they're looking for the same thing. Nice day. :)

A Whole Lotta Nuthin'
We all three went to the YMCA early (9am) this morning. It was nice to be there as a family. :) We hurried home to get the house ready for the Voice lessons I taught at 11am. I taught two sisters, one 11 the other 13 years old. It was interesting to see how different they are in their voices. It was wild when they left they paid me $20. I was like, wow...they paid me money for doing this...amazing. I mean, I do my best to teach them, but I guess I never thought anything I knew would be worth $$ someday...but even so, it's just $10 for 30 minutes. :)
After the voice lessons, we made homemade pizza and played games until 1:30pm. Then we packed up and went to Shannon's house where Tyler watched the kids & Shannon came with me to the baby shower for Amy. The shower went well. They had some cute games including one where they melted mini candybars in clean diapers and you had to guess which ones they were...kind of a gross idea but still fun.
After that we went by Deena's house to chill a while. After that--we did a whole lotta nuthin' for the rest of the night. We went by Target to find an Easter dress for Anna, but I only saw sleeveless dresses and I don't want to do that with Anna. When she was a toddler I bought some cute tank tops from OLD NAVY, but I decided that I don't want her to be in the habit of wearing them now. ANYHOW. We couldn't find one at Target so we drove over to Wal-mart and found a cute pink/white checkered dress. It's really cute, I'll post pictures in a few weeks. Then we bought some groceries (of course) for a potential dinner tomorrow...we've invited a couple over but it hasn't been completely CONFIRMED that they'll be coming...I hope we can make some friend here who like games...right now it feels like we're the only ones who like to play them!!! (Melisa, where are you???)

Chili Cook-off
Happy Friday all! I woke up and took Anna with me to the YMCA. I had a very good workout doing the treadmill for 30 minutes and the elliptical for 15 + some weight machines on my lower body. I switch off every day. Today I did my legs, yesterday I did my arms/stomach. I like that sore feeling from my muscles being worked! :)
While Anna watched PETER PAN, I showered and got ready for the day. I made a Chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting (a new recipe from the HERSHEY COOKBOOK, Thanks Deena!) for the chili cook-off. I also went to the post office to mail some things and did some dishes. My house has stayed relatively clean today, which is nice since I spent yesterday getting it all clean. :)
Anna & I went over to Sarah's house where she & I chatted while Anna played with Leia. We came home and then went to the Chili Cook-off social at the church. Anna & I were towards the beginning of the line to get some food (we were hungry!) I had filled Anna's bowl about 1/2 full of chili & cheese and she decided to hold it as we went down the tables (there must have been 15 different crockpots of chili). Suddenly I felt something warm splatter all over my leg and heard Anna wailing. She had dropped her bowl of chili and it splashed all over my left leg & shoe. She was so upset about it--for my sake! She was bawling saying "I'm so sorry, Mama! I didn't mean to!!" with tears flowing. She was so hysterical about it that I certainly couldn't be upset (she was upset enough for the both of us). So Tyler came and took her away to comfort her while I tried to clean off beans, cheese, beef, and chili juice off my pant leg, my shoe and the floor. UGH. My poor little girl. She was disraught. :(
The rest of the social was nice. We sat with a family that is just now coming back to church--the wife is a member, husband non-member. The wife, Tammy, made a new years resolution to come back to church. It was nice getting to know them. We're now exhausted from the day! And tomorrow will be busy as well. Goodnight!!!

I'm Steppin' Out With My Baby
We went the YMCA...4 days in a row now...almost a habit, eh? I was able to exercise on the treadmill for 25 minutes until my blister began to ache a bit, I did some arm weights and then did 15 minutes on the eliptical. The kids LOVED their time in the MAT room, and I enjoyed chatting with Sarah.
After Anna went to school, I took a shower and got all gussied up...want to know why? My husband and I had a lunch date today! HOORAY! Dating hasn't been common during our marriage. Tyler didn't date while growing up and he & I didn't exactly "date" while we were dating/engaged, we sort of just hung out. Of course, when I think of what a date is, this is what pops in my head: Someone asks the other person on a date. If accepted, a date/time/location of activity is usually discussed. Then on the appropriate day, that first someone goes to pick up the other and off they go. My idea of a date is NOT when you happen to be watching a movie with someone (alone without kids) and they say at the end of the movie, we could count this as our date this week! Yeah, that doesn't quite work for me. However, the problem is: we don't have money...so the idea of having a lunch date (at a restaurant) once a week is more than we can afford. So, that whole thought process kind of made our date bittersweet--wondering when we'll ever be able to do it again, etc. I need to work harder at just ENJOYING myself...here & now...in the PRESENT! Anyhow, here's a picture I took of myself all gussied up. Of course, I was the only person home when I took the picture, so you can't see the cute outfit that I was wearing!

I really enjoyed our date. It was nice talking with Tyler about various things. He's a good man. He's smart, intelligent, and sincerely loves me. :)
When Anna got off the bus, she was completely bawling. I ran out to see what was wrong and noticed that she didn't have her backpack--that was the cause of all the tears. I asked the bus driver where the backpack was and she said it never made it on the bus. *sigh* So, I packed my sweet girl up and headed to the preschool, hoping it would still be open and it was. Her backpack was in her classroom and once she had it back--there was a big smile on her face. I felt like such a good Mom taking her to get the backpack. She was so distressed--and her Mama saved the day! I feel like romping around the house with a SUPER MAMA red cape tied around my neck...
I've been cleaning like CRAZY! I've cleaned both bathrooms--I mean, really SCRUBBING it up! Next I have plans to do the kitchen...but I'm quickly losing steam and sitting here at the computer isn't exactly making me motivated to get it done tonight. We shall see.

Happy π Day!
Well, Tyler informed me that today is a day of PI (π), meaning it's March 14 (3/14) and pi = 3.14...so, Happy Pi Day everyone!
Do you ever wake up and have these grand plans of how much you're going to accomplish that day....and then at the end of the day you look around and realize that you actually spent your day doing other things?? Well, that's been my past 2 days! I've been meaning to clean my bathrooms for 2 days...and they need to be cleaned! Yet, I have found several other things to do to occupy my time--some fun, others not as fun. And I'm so sore from all the exercise that in the evening--when I usually come alive with energy--I'm too tired to get any housework done. :(
Today I went to the YMCA--3 days in a row! However, I couldn't do a whole lot of cardio workout because of my blister. *sigh* I hope it will heal quickly!!! I did 15 minutes on the treadmill, 15 minutes of weights, 10 minutes on the ecliptical, 10 minutes on weight, etc...then we took the kids to the MAT room again. Anna has quite the imagination. Her latest craze is being a PIRATE, such a cutie!
Anna & I went to wal-mart to purchase some Sunday shoes for Anna + some groceries for the week. We came home just in time to feed her lunch and get out the door to catch the bus...then I met up with Sarah for the afternoon. We went to Lowe's, I feel so funny going there. Maybe it's because there's SO many things in there--and I have no clue what they are. Or maybe it's because I don't see any other girls in there...this evening I met up with Sarah and her MIL, Joan, and we went to the movies. Talk about PRICEY!!! The movie cost $9.50! Can you believe that?? In Oklahoma it cost $6.50 and that was in the MALL. We usually went to the dollar theatre...we's poor folk. Anyhow, we saw MUSIC AND LYRICS. It was a cute flick. I especially enjoy the opening credits which is a music video of POP! goes my heart! So fun! It was fun getting out and spending some girl time, thanks Sarah!

Incident
So today Anna & I went to the YMCA. It was a great workout until the back of my heel began to hurt, I removed my sock/shoe to behold a blister about the size of a quarter...OUCH! I asked for a bandaid and that helped me get through the rest of my workout...I hope it will heal quickly! (I don't want to quit my 50 minute walks!) Afterwards, some of my friends & their kids went into the "Mat Room," which is full of fun types of gymnastic-like stuff. The kids had a great time while we chatted it up. Fun, fun, fun!
We came home, ate lunch which included banana strawberry smoothies! YUMMY! Anna went off to school and I showered and went on base to pick up some clomid. Afterwards, I went to another part of the base (going off base first) to hit the commissary for groceries. While having my id checked, suddenly I was informed that I couldn't go on base and that I needed to wait for the SECURITY FORCES who would soon be arriving. Confused, I asked why and the security guard said that my tag stickers were outdated. *sigh* I waited for 15 minutes for them to arrive. They came, took my id card and went back to their nice little police car. 10 minutes later they came back and issued me a ticket for $75. YIKES! I informed them that we had moved here recently and that we didn't receive any warnings from the OK tag agency because they didn't have our forwarding address...didn't make a difference. And to makes things worse, I couldn't go on base to the commissary. In fact, I'm not allowed to go back on base until I get new stickers. *SIGH* However, my husband hasn't quite gotten that paperwork together and mailed it off...so it will be about 3 weeks before I can go back on base again...*HEAVY SIGH*
Anna went with me to BOOK CLUB at Sherry's house. She played with Sariah while the rest of us enjoyed time chatting about the book for this past month: FASCINATING WOMANHOOD. I greatly enjoyed the discussion. We stayed pretty late--getting home after 9:30pm! Anna was awake an hour later when Tyler got home from taking his last final for this quarter. Tyler read her a story and soon after she was asleep. That's my day today...

And WORK IT! (quoted from Mulan)
Well, Anna & I went to the YMCA this morning at 9am. Sarah & her brood met us there. We hit the treadmills for 30 minutes, then I hit the track for 20 minutes followed by 15 minutes on those weight machine thingys. It feels sooooooooooo good to be exercising, and I felt like we should have held a mini enrichment meeting because I think I saw 10 other girls from church! It was fun, I'm glad that I can go there and WORK IT now. I plan to go mon-sat.
The plumber came. He saw. He conquered. I now have a kitchen sink that is functioning! I've done 3 loads of dishes in the dishwasher and I have at least 2 more to go...
I had thought that because I am now exercising in the morning that I would have those precious 3 hours while Anna's in school to be extra productive. Well, this is what I did during those 3 hours:

Black Forest Cake
Well, we were invited over to Valene's house for dinner/games and she requested that I bring a dessert. I felt like renewing my skill in decorating cakes (I used to work in a bakery when I was 14 and the lady in charge taught me how to decorate cakes). I like to stay in practice. I recognize that I'm not a professional cake baker/decorator, but I greatly enjoy producing a dessert that is not only delicious but also LOOKS appealing. We took the cake over and it was a BIG hit. :) We played a card game called SET and then played SCUM. It was a fun evening, Anna didn't want to leave!

It's Spring Forward Time
Well, like many (all) of you, I got one hour less of sleep last night. Went to choir practice and we only had 6 people show up. It was SO SMALL! I guess I'm going to have to be more proactive inviting people to choir. My friend Sarah said she might start attending, so that's a start! (you're committed now, right??)
There was a beautiful musical number today. There's a young woman in the ward who is deaf and several ladies in the ward have learned sign language to communicate with her. One of them, Michele, has known sign language her whole life because both of her parents are deaf. The interesting thing is that she can hear. I didn't know that 2 deaf parents could have a child who could hear. Anyhow, she signed the hymn, I Stand All Amazed, while 2 young women sang and they were accompanied by a beautiful arrangement on the piano. It was so powerful. Michele signed so well and the Spirit was strong. I really enjoyed it.
Well, we still don't have a kitchen sink that works, I just hope that someone can come over TOMORROW to get it fixed. Thankfully, I haven't invited anyone over tomorrow for dinner--so I won't have to worry about getting the past 3 days worth of dishes done! (not to mention MAKING the dinner, etc) We actually were invited over to a family's house tomorrow for dinner/fhe, so that will be nice! :)
My stepmother called today and said that she and my sister, Alleigh, may be coming to visit us for Spring Break. My dad is very busy with his new job & will be out of town for the next 3 weeks straight! I hope they can come, it would be SO fun to have them here and Anna would LOVE to spend some time with her favorite aunt! (who is only 7 years older than she is...) It's funny because I was just telling Tyler that I wished some family would come visit us, and then Suzanne called today saying they may come. :)

BIG BOY
This morning Anna & I went down to the local YMCA and signed up for membership. I took Anna down to the nursery and walked around the indoor track for 40 minutes listening to my ethnic music on my MP3 player...it felt really good. I plan to go workout 6 days a week (all but Sunday).
Well, yesterday while making dinner, I unwisely put some potato skins down the disposal...now we aren't allowed to access the kitchen sink NOR use it in any way. Try going a whole day without using your kitchen sink. To make things worse, I did a lot of cooking/baking yesterday + we had some company = lots of dirty dishes, and we have no way to clean them, therefore we don't have very many CLEAN dishes...which makes eating difficult...so Tyler took us out for dinner at BIG BOY. It was a glorified hamburger joint--meaning they charge more, the food wasn't necessarily any better than WENDYS--but it was a quaint little place, and it was nice spending time with my family. :)

$2.55
I don't know how much gas costs where you are living, but I saw a local gas station with the price of $2.55 per gallon. Isn't this crazy?? I remember being in high school and seeing the local gas station sell gas for 98 cents a gallon. Surely it should be the same now, right??? Don't I wish.
My friend, Sarah, called and reminded me about playgroup this morning at 10:30am. I'm so glad she called, because we went & Anna is still talking about it. She just LOVES to play with other kids. My little social butterfly...
I went to the hospital to have my blood drawn to confirm that my period arriving means I'm, once again, not pregnant. I was pretty impressed with how well the nurse took the blood. Although, his personality was like ice...I guess I prefer that to a happy guy who has to stick me 3 times.
Today was pretty busy. I made crockpot pork roast (12 hours on low, nice & tender with a "built-in gravy), mashed potatoes, corn, homemade rolls, & HOMEMADE Angel Food Cake with REAL whipped cream and strawberries....yeah, it was a GREAT meal. We had the missionaries over & our neighbor, Laling, as well. We had a nice visit. Now I'm off to play CHUTES & LADDERS with a very impatient 5 year-old.

Maybe Next Month
Well, my period seems to be suddenly here. I wasn't expecting it to be so early--it's been 3 1/2 weeks since my last period started. My cycle is usually 4 to 4 1/2 weeks long. I guess it's better this way--it's so hard to think that you might be pregnant...and your period is late, so you take a pregnancy test--it's negative and your period shows up within hours...at least I don't have to go through that this cycle.
So, it's not happy news, but at least I had success with the ovulation prediction kit this month. That's progress. Now I get to go take another pregnancy test...I don't exactly enjoy being stuck in my veins.
*sigh*

Homemade vs. Engineered
We're thinking about possibly going on a vacation in June. My brother is putting in his mission papers and we thought it would be nice to see him before he leaves for Britain or Brazil or Boise...plus my sister is most likely going to Belarus with her husband at the end of this year...I don't know if we'll get to see them if we don't go this summer, although I would like to be there when her baby is born...but I think we can only afford one trip per year.
We're also considering the idea of joining the local YMCA. It was built 2 years ago and is a VERY nice facility. They even have free daycare while you exercise. I figure that I'm going to need that when Anna is out of school during the summer. They also have some water aerobics classes which look like fun and it wouldn't put a lot of strain on my body.
My husband's favorite cake is Angel Food Cake. I recently purchased an Angel Food cake mix to make for tomorrow, but then I thought I should at least try to make a homemade one--since I've never tried it. I've been intimidated about the idea of making it because my Mom said it was really hard to make and when she tried it, it didn't turn out well. (My Mom is an excellent cook!) Well, I put Better Homes & Garden to the test with their recipe for Angel Food Cake. I baked them at the same time (yes, I have two tube pans...I'm not exactly sure how that happened) and am posting a picture of each. Please tell me which one is homemade vs. Engineered. I will say that the homemade cake was difficult to make, but the cake mix looked so "fake" compared to the batter of the homemade one.

Which is homemade? Which is engineered??

Daddy Daughter Date
Let's see, yesterday I met my friend Sherry for lunch at a nearby chinese restaurant. It was my first Chinese meal since moving here. It was pretty good...but nothing compared to Oriental Garden in Stillwater...mmmmmm! After lunch, I met Angela to have a pedicure. Pedicures are a funny thing. I like them, the nice massage chair, my pretty toes...etc, but it's painful as well. I'm only ticklish on my feet...so you can imagine why I might not enjoy the whole experience...but it's worth all the tickling. =)
Today I did some cleaning; I practiced the piano quite a bit. At 2:30pm, I taught my first voice lesson here in OH. It went well. Lea (pronounced "Lee") is almost 14 years old (she was quick to point that out) and eager to improve herself in music. I think it will be a learning experience for me & for her as well.
GIRL'S NIGHT: Shannon & Sarah came over and we finished CHARLES DICKENS' "Bleak House." It was very enjoyable!
Tyler decided that he wanted to spend some quality time with Anna on a weekly basis. So, wednesday evenings are set aside as a Daddy Daughter Date. Tonight Tyler took Anna to "Old MacDonalds," (McDonalds) for supposedly some playing and an ice cream cone. When they went to the counter to order the ice cream, Tyler's phone rang and while he was talking--Anna apparantely went up to the register and ordered herself a Happy Meal complete with Chocolate Milk & an ice cream cone. When Tyler finished his phone call he was surprised to see all the food! He said that they had only planned to get ice cream....in the end, Tyler paid for it all. I guess next time he won't answer the phone call, eh? Well, Anna had a great time with her Daddy...she was beaming when she came home. Precious memories...

Getting Up Early = Get More Stuff Done
So I got up at 8am today (that's relatively early for me, you know). I played 6 total games with Anna--consisting of HiHoCheerio, Candyland, & Trouble. I was all gamed out and Anna wanted to watch the Chipmunk Adventure...so I was able to catch up on some things around the house.
I met Tyler on-base for some racquetball and walking around the track. We had such a fun time! There was more goofing off than usual...I found myself laughing more. I think it was good for us to be out of the house doing something together....I'm a bit sore, though! I haven't played racquetball since November....
Tonight I'm making a nice dinner for JUST my family. It seems that I normally make the NICE MEALS when we have company, which is pretty often...but anyhow, tonight I'm making manicotti, breadsticks, some type of vegetable, and probably some pb kiss cookies I made yesterday...my husband is a BIG fan of those...
For FHE tonight we're doing smoke/fire alarm drills. Picture a 5 year-old being upstairs, hearing the smoke alarm...and making a DASH out the front door....that's what will be happening at my house tonight! Should be fun, and hopefully she'll remember it in case it ever happens...hopefully NEVER!

Staying Home
We woke up this morning to Anna saying her tummy hurt. This was the first time that Anna had ever said this to me, so I was concerned and certainly didn't want to take her to church if she didn't feel well--plus I don't think it's right to bring a sick child to church where she can spread it around--so Anna & I stayed home. I'm sure there's about 5 people not pleased about receiving a phone call from me before 8am this morning. I had to find a replacement for choir practice, chorister, etc. It all worked out...and Anna never did throw up--but better safe than sorry and she rested quite a bit, which helped. Poor girl. 5 minutes before church was ending, Anna said she wanted to go to church and that she missed going to primary. :(
Since Anna didn't show any signs of being sick or contagious, we still had a new family over for a nice buttermilk waffle dinner. It was nice to get to know them and they have a daughter a year younger than Anna--they had a GREAT time playing. Before we knew it-it was time for Stake Choir practice, so Heather & I went to that. We're working on an Easter Program. The music is really lovely, but I was hoping for something more challenging...I was able to sight read the whole cantata...I think I need to address my desire to sing & be heard. I have this voice, which I honestly think is really beautiful. I feel that I can sing very well...and I want to USE my voice. But how? I'm seriously considering the idea of taking some voice lessons...I don't want to digress in my talent--I want to improve.

I Reserve The Right
I reserve the right to be in a bad mood even if I don't know exactly how I got into it or further, for how long I will remain in that bad mood. Enough said.
Today Tyler went to Columbus to work with his group on their project which is due next week. He was gone until about 3pm. Anna wanted to Leia to come over & play, which she did until 4:30pm. The girls had a good time, except for when they decided to cheat to win on certain games such as "PRETTY PRETTY PRINCESS" (Leia) & "CHUTES & LADDERS" (Anna). *sigh* But they had a good time playing for the rest of the time. =)
Tyler & I had a conversation concerning our notes from the Marriage Fireside. It got me thinking that I would really like to be courted more by my husband. I'm curious to know what your definition of "Courting" is, please leave a comment on it. My husband thinks that courting means we spend time together at home. My idea of courting involves planned and usually involving activities OUTSIDE the home. We also discussed the idea of being "wooed." How do you feel "wooed?" My sweet husband thinks it involves kind acts of service. He's very good to me in that way. But for some reason I seem to think that being "wooed" involves flowers, small gifts, getaways, unexpected surprises, etc. Do I expect too much? Honestly, up until now I never considered what I wanted (or was getting) in the courting/wooing area of marriage. And now that I've thought about it--I hope we can make some changes that are satisfactory to both my husband & myself. Any experiences that you've had with this particular topic?? Anyone???
Anyhow, I think my bad mood today was from the previously mentioned topic, and therefore I was in a pretty good snit. I wanted to play some games with another couple, but I was frustrated that we couldn't find anyone to play with...then I became frustrated that no one really calls us to hang out(Melisa, I really needed you guys tonight!!!)...and then I realized that I was STARVING because I hadn't really eaten all day....not good considering the fact I was already in a poopy mood. SO, my sweet husband, wanting to please his wife, took Anna & I out to Chili's for dinner. It was SO good, and not making dinner was nice too! Then we came home, read scriptures, prayed, Tyler put Anna to bed, I made us some nice green juices (cucumber, green pepper, celery, romaine lettuce & spinach = YUM!) Of course the green juices was meant to counteract the nice fried Chicken Crispers that I had for dinner, not to mention the molten lava cake....mmmmmmmmm.
So, I'm much more recovered from my snit earlier...but I reserve the right to return to it, if I feel so inclined. After all, I AM WOMAN.

Marriage Fireside
Last night Tyler & I stayed up until 1am watching "The Way Home," a Korean movie. It's...slow going, but has a good message. However, since I was up late--you guessed--I slept in as well. My darling, patient daughter, Anna, is so good to me and lets me sleep in--most of the time not interrupting me too often. She's a precious gem.
We made pizza for lunch, ran some errands, and then went to Shannon's house. I determined that I need to begin a regular exercise program. So today I used a guest pass at the YMCA. It's really a great little setup there--they have a nursery for the kids while you exercise. Anna didn't want to leave it when we were done. We walked around the track for about 45 minutes. It's been 3 months since I last exercised--when the snow came in december--and my thighs are SORE! But it's the good kind of sore, the kind where you feel like you've done what you should have been doing all along....=)
This evening Anna went to play at Emma's house while Tyler & I went to the Stake Marriage Fireside. It was really wonderful. The Stake President spoke for 1 1/2 hours on strenghthening marriage. Some of the questions that he asked us are:
Who is the main object of your love?
What are the benefits to that person?
Do we love ourselves the most or our spouse?
He had some great thoughts for us, I'm really glad that we were able to go. It was a wonderful evening. And I dressed up really nice--even did that "beautiful s wave" on my hair. I even had a compliment from Nicole saying how nice I looked. =)

Where's The Sunshine?
I never thought I'd say this...but I am missing OKLAHOMA weather today. At least in OK you have sunshine throughout the winter...I may have glorious snow in Ohio, but I am missing the sunshine. How ironic: I want snow that will last, yet I also want the thing that will make the snow go away...
I mailed a birthday package to my sister serving a mission in MI. I hope she will enjoy it--it's always fun to do packages, isn't it? I think so. I also mailed a cd to my friend, Sarah, in OK.
Anna & I went to the consignment shop on tuesday and bought her two pairs of jeans (total $5) and CANDYLAND ($1.50) the OLD one, the one I grew up with. Well, as you can imagine, we've played it several times since we brought it home. Anna will try to manipulate the game by putting the PRINCESS LOLLY card on the top of the card pile while saying she plans to go first in the game. Once I caught on to her little scheme (after two games starting this way) I put the PRINCESS LOLLY card in the middle of the stack of cards...this did not please PRINCESS ANNA.
I cleaned (yet again) the C2 room, and this time I brought out my scrapbook and began sorting through pictures....hopefully this will get me motivated to begin scrappin' again...and not put it off until the C2 room is cleaned again in the near future...I also made some brownies--Deena, we must be on the same page here...

Our Strengths Can Become Our Downfall
Here's a talk that Tyler emailed to me. It has some interesting food for thought...enjoy:
