Fruit Flies

Does anyone know how to rid your house of fruit flies? (besides the obvious answer to not buy fruit) Well, I never knew what brought fruit flies in the house, but my theory is that they are somehow in the skin of the fruit before I buy the fruit...is there any validity to this theory? Do share. And while you're at it--tell me how to get rid of them!!!!

I had my music theory class today. I learned a lot of things. It's amazing to me that I haven't learned in which order the sharps & flats are on the staff until now. I'm sure that will be useful to me, eh? I also had my italian course. Buongiorno! Come ti chiami? Mi chiamo Jill. Come stai? Sto bene. It's a fun language, I'm trying very hard to focus on learning the correct spelling of the words. Since they are somewhat similar to spanish, I hope to be able to separate them in my mind. (fingers crossed)

Tyler is building some great shelves in our garage. He's so handy, and it helps feed my desire to be more organized while satisfies his desire to be using his tools--everyone wins!

I haven't heard that theory before, but it wouldn't be my first guess. If I get them, I keep the fruit in the fridge and the trash can free of anything they might want to eat until their short life span has ended. They can be a pain.

I have heard that you leave a half-full bottle of wine on the counter. They fly down into it and drown. I'll research it and see what else I find.

You know, I had the same problem trying to dis-associate what I knew of Spanish when I was in the MTC, since Portuguese is so similar to it. Of course, now I know Portuguese much better than I ever knew Spanish, so when I try to speak in Spanish I have to first think in Portuguese and then translate it or else it just comes out Portuguese. I don't know that you'll get to that point in Italian (I'm not sure how far you're going with it), but I hope you'll be able to keep them separate! I've always loved Italian...I wonder if knowing Portuguese and a little bit of Spanish would help me in that regard? Buona fortuna! (that may be wrong...I had an Italian-speaking roommate, but that was awhile ago)

get some other fruit that you don't like and leave a trail of food from the fruit you do like to the fruit you don't like and that will get the fruit flies away from the fruit you do like. OR if that fails, you can look in the mirror, halfway close your eyes, and chant three times in italian, "No more fruit flies"

I feel your pain. Google always has the answer. But I used a cup with some apple cider vinegar with some dish soap in it. Cover the cup with plastic wrap, poke some holes in it with a fork, and leave for however long you have flies. And, I know this is the hardest part, keep the sink, garbage and counters clean. Take out garbage often and try to keep wash clothes clean. Good luck!

I found that fruit flies like apple cider vinegar. Put a small bowl with a little apple cider vinegar into the dishwasher and leave the dishwasher open. Later you will see the little buggers sitting on the edges of the bowl. That's when you slam the door shut and start it. Bye bye fruit flies! glub, glub.
