Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy New Year! Yes, we celebrate Chinese New Year at our home. One more reason to party, right? We invited the Neel's over to celebrate. Trent served his mission in Taiwan as well, which makes it fun. We had fish (tilapia), shrimp, steamed buns, fried rice, & shuijiaos (pork & cabbage dumplings) with coconut rice pudding & fruit (pineapple, mango, lychee & pumelos) for dessert. Anna ate at least 8 shrimps & was asking for MORE! :o) It was a wonderful meal and we all had a great time. Check the sidebar for pictures. We got our digital frame up & running - I put pictures from our trip to Taiwan on it with some chinese music as well. It's such a neat little gadget!

Today I spent a couple of hours making those shuijiaos - they are so tasty, but very time consuming. Anna & I played Guess Who and she helped me do things around the house. She's such an easy child - she listens to me and has such a positive attitude about life. We made some valentine cards for her class - Larry Boy style. :o)

We're thinking of going to Washington DC to celebrate Tyler's 30th birthday in March. Have any of you been there? We'd like to tour some historical museums, hopefully get a tour of the white house, etc. What do you recommend doing in D.C.? Any restaurants to recommend? Also, we don't know if there is a public transportation to use, or should we rent a car? Your thoughts?

Your dinner sounds fun! What a great tradition!

I've never been to DC. I'm sure there is enough to keep you guys really busy! That's only a month away! Have fun!

How are Tyler's eyes?

A car in DC is a really bad idea. If you manage not to wreck or inadvertently drive into the 'wrong' part of town, you still won't be able to find anywhere to park it. The subway is great. You can view subway maps online. I have been to several restaurants in DC that I'd recommend, but I am sure there are many more delicious ones to find. Just wander around where there are restaurants in the evening until something smells good. Definitely go to the Smithsonian. And the International Spy Museum. It rocks.

D.C. is the BEST! (Of course I think so, MD is home for us!)
Bethesda is a great place to stay - it is very close to the temple and is a quaint, beautiful part of town. We spent our honeymoon there and took the subway everywhere, which is totally fun and easy. We stayed at the Bethesda Court Hotel - www.bethesdacourtwashdc.com
Georgetown is really neat to visit and there is an awesome Italian restaurant there...I'll have to see if I can find the name of it if you decide to go there...

Bruce's sister lived there for 4 years and just moved away in June of last year. I am going to send your blog to her so she can leave you some recomendations.

I almost went to DC back in 11th grade. My History team got third in state. If we would have gotten first or second, we would have gone. I hear the Washington DC temple is pretty cool.

D.C. is great!!! And visits to almost everywhere are free... Smithsonian, Washington Monument, White House, Congress. Also the war memorials on the Mall, Arlington National Cemetery, changing of the guard, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial.

I love Washington!!!!

Just like everyone else has said, DC is great. You can go online to get information about the Metro system because it is not the greatest idea to drive into DC. Depending on when you go you may be getting there around the Cherry Blossom Festival. You can google information about that. There are even MORE things to do during that time and even LESS room for cars :) The blossoms around the Jefferson memorial are breathtaking! Everything on the mall is awesome and free. You should talk with a senator/representative about now to see if you can get a White HOuse Tour. They only last about 10 minutes, but I think it would be fun (we never quite made it while we were there). You can also see the capital, all the smithsonians. The kids loved the natural history one best. The Native american one was great for me, but quite boring for the kids. I have a book called 'The Unofficial Guide to the Mid-Atlantic with kids' that you can borrow. It has a section just on DC
