Television hunt

So, we're looking to upgrade our t.v. to something bigger and better. Currently we have a modest 27 inch tube tv. It has served us well, however, with Tyler's promotion we are thinking to upgrade it to something 40 inches or larger. We thought of buying a used rear projection tv from craigslist - but realized that by the time we bought one (they range about $600-700 for 47 in and above) that we'd have to buy a light bulb every 2 years and they range in price around $200 EACH, which that would almost equal $900 - and at that price we could buy a new one. So, we're thinking of upgrading to a NEW tv. I don't know anything about the modern tvs, therefore, I need YOUR input. Tell me about your tv:

-where you bought it

-what features it has that made you want it

-what brand did you choose

-if it's LCD, plasma, flat screened...and explanations on what those actually MEAN would also help...

I look forward to your advice! :o)

Wish I could help, but ours is 6 years old. I don't know much about the new stuff. Someday we'll afford a new one... sigh.

You definitely want LCD. Plasma are notorious for not lasting very long and being much more delicate than LCD. HHGregg near Bed Bath and Beyond may still have good deals going on so you might want to check there. I REALLY like my TV! It's Toshiba but we went by what we could afford more than anything else. And we avoided names we hadn't heard of. There's my TV advice for the day. Hope it helps.

We just got a LCD HD tv with our tax return. Kit did all the research, so if you need more info, I could ask him. It is a Vizio. Good luck!

Let us know how you enjoy whatever you end up with. We still have our original 27in tube also. Going on 13 years.

We bought our HD LCD from craigslist. It's a Magnovox. 40 inch flatpanel. The guy had only had it for a month and decided to get something larger...we got it for $600. It's a $1500 t.v. Was still in its original box and he gave us the receipt in case we had any warranty problems.

Definitely don't give up on Craigslist. There are great deals to be had. New postings come up everyday, so keep checking!!

Jeremy would be soooo jealous. He wants a new updated T.V. But there really isn't any good reason for us getting a new one. I did hear that HHGregg is having a good sale right now with their grand opening...oh I see Sarah just told you that same thing ha. Good luck finding one!
