Some clarification

From what I've been told, it is illegal to split up siblings in Ukraine for adoption purposes. We sent in our appointment request letter to Ukraine and that is how we learned that Nastya (Katya) is in the process of being adopted. When you send in your appointment request letter - it states the children that you're wanting to adopt so they can pull the files and move the adoption process along a bit faster, so when they pulled the files of Nick & Nastya - it showed that Nastya was in the process of being adopted by someone else already. I'm told that she hasn't been legally adopted in Ukraine as of yet - but she is scheduled to go to court very quickly and that she has been approved to be adopted by a family who is there currently. Furthermore, I'm told that it's the government's fault that this has happened (or someone in charge over there) and rather than stop this adoption from happening, they are going to somehow "make it up" to us by helping us adopt another healthy girl along with Nick. I'm told it's difficult to adopt 2 unrelated children from Ukraine, so they would be helping to remedy the situation by bending that rule for us. Of course, nothing is certain at this point - except for our grief over losing Nastya (Katya). :o(

Jill, if you end up adopting a second unrelated child, keep in mind you will need to file a second I-600 (with the accompanying fee) at the Embassy. Just a heads-up before you get to that point. Still hoping maybe the other family will back out!
