I am a Christian

So we're getting things together for the adoption and finances are looking bleak. Even with all of the wonderful help and donations that we've received - we still need at least $20,000 to take with us (that's JUST for in Ukraine - doesn't include airfare) and we're only approved for a $15,000 loan. There are several adoption grants that you can apply for - most of them are Christian-based, however they don't view lds (mormons) as Christians. Of course I am a Christian - the name of my church is The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints. My friend, Valerie, who is also LDS, applied for every single grant and was denied. She believes it is because they didn't feel she was "Christian" because she's Mormon. I think that someday I'd like to begin my own Adoption Loan/Grant company and have it be open to all who believe in Christ. I know that I do. He is my Savior and I love Him. I pray that He will guide me through this adoption process and help me find the funds that we need to make this happen. I have faith that He will help us. I recently posted a summary of our adoption story up to date, to read it click here!

That makes me sad about the grants. It doesn't seem right.

That is a lot of stress to carry this month, sweetie. Take care of yourself and stay strong.

Ugh, how annoying! (the grants.) Did you get my email yesterday about the work at home job??

It seems like with all the "proving" we have to do to make people believe that we are Christians, people would finally get it. The "proof" is in the media and like you said, the Church's name itself. How frustrating and annoying, especially when it keeps you from getting the financial aid you need. Good luck!

I think the difference is in the belief in who Christ is. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the LDS church believe that Christ was born as a man and became God, whereas the Protestant/Catholic churches believe that Christ was God who came as a man?

The difference in the LDS beliefs and Protestant/Catholic beliefs is that we do not believe in the trinity (or that God the father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are the same being). We believe that God the father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are three separate and distinct beings who are one in purpose. So, in that sense, yes, the difference would be in who Christ is because we believe that he was never God the Father (whereas other Christian faiths believe they are actually the same person). We DO believe that Jesus Christ is the literal son of God the Father however, and that he always has been, even before the world was. So, in a nutshell, we believe that God the Eternal Father, His son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are three separate beings who are one in purpose and that it is by and through our Savior Jesus Christ that we are saved. I guess I fail to see how this excludes us from Christianity.
