Marriage

Today I was talking with another mom in the rehab waiting room while we waited for our kids to finish up therapy. She was telling me more about her cute little daughter who was a preemie and has suffered many difficulties from it. She mentioned that because of how hard this experience was for she & her husband - their marriage struggled exceedingly. She said that her husband left her after their special needs daughter was born. My heart went out to her. It seems as though divorce is so common these days and there are many reasons that people cite to validate their desire for divorce, but it also creates such heartache, as well.

Elder Dallin H. Oaks said this quote: "A good marriage does not require a perfect man or a perfect woman. It only requires a man and a woman committed to strive together toward perfection."

talk, click here. You may find this an odd topic for my adoption blog, but I'll share with you why I wrote about it. First of all, take a good look at this handsome couple.

I am so pleased and proud and honored to be Tyler's wife. When he married me, he married me for good and for bad and for forever. All marriages have trials as well as good times. The adoption process was the most stretching we've ever done in our marriage. We were tested in all sorts of ways, but instead of letting it divide us - it strengthened our marriage. Now we are stronger because of it. I am thankful that God led me to such an honorable man. Tyler is a selfless person who is constantly giving me 100%. I love him so much. Thanks for listening.

This is the perfect topic for an adoption...besides, its your blog - write whatever is on your heart! ;>)
International does put a lot of stress on a marriage. It tests it beyond just about anything I've experienced. The only event I can honestly say in our marriage that was more stressful was our 10 year battle with infertility.
The best gift as a wife is when your Prince Charming is not only good at making you feel special, he's also pretty darn good at slaying the adoption process dragons. ;)

Hi Jill,
Thank you for bringing up this topic. Kevin and I have the most "perfect" marriage possible I believe. Of course there are ups and downs, but we married each other for LIFE. Good or Bad, we are husband and wife. Pregnancy losses, infertility and the stresses we encountered during our adoption stuff was very, very stressful. However, our Heavenly Father knew what he was doing and we are now expecting a perfect little boy. I also believe that part of our marriage success is our faith. Actually, 99% is our faith, I believe.

It is so refreshing to read your blog and how you constantly mention how great your husband is. I feel the same way about mine! One of my best friends is just now getting ready to get a divorce. She just moved out earlier this month. It is so hard for me to try to understand what she is going through and try to give my advice when she asks. My views are that "divorce" is not an option and that word is not even spoken in our house. Anyway, I really love to read about happy coulpes that have been through hard times, but instead of letting it divide them it brings tham together like you guys.

Beautiful post, Jill. I have found that our trials and difficult times have helped Scott and I to grow closer to each other and appreciate and love each other even more. What a blessing.

I was just discussing this with my Rabbi's wife yesterday. We were talking about the high divorce rate and whatnot. I am blessed enough to have parents who have been married for almost 22 years (I'm 20). Their relationship provides a wonderful model for me. Now if only I can find a man as sweet as my father!
