Sleep apnea

This week I am going in for an overnight evaluation for sleep apnea. 10 years ago I was diagnosed with sleep apnea while in college. I never got a breathing mask, they just gave me some tips for how to deal with it. Slowly it seemed to go away. I am here to announce that it is back in my life and that my sleep is struggling because of it. I am hopeful that through this overnight evaluation I will be able to find some answers to help. Anyone else have sleep apnea? Do you use the mask? Does it help?

My mil has sleep apnea and she does use a mask. It has made all the difference to her. In fact, we were at her house this weekend and we talking about it. My fil was talking about a man he knows and he uses a mask for sleep apnea, as well. He said that since he has used the mask it has changed his world for the better. He is happier, more efficiant, ect. Anyway, my mil was talking about how sleep apnea will damage your heart and can result in a heart attack (we also had a friend's father die of a heart attack from his sleep apnea...he let it go untreated). It has made all the difference to her. She said she sleeps much, much better. I would highly reccomend going with a mask. Hope this helps! Good luck!!

My mom uses the CPAP machine for sleep apnea and said she sleeps much better. However, she sometimes pulls it off in her sleep and apparently it makes an annoying hissing noise.
I've heard many, many times (can't remember specific ppl now) of people that feel more rested than they ever remembered after treating the sleep apnea, so hope it works!

Both my sister Kirsti and my husband have CPAP machines--Kirsti's had hers for about three years and Cody for about 2.5 years. I don't know a ton about how it's worked for Kirsti, but Cody's has done wonders for him. And plus, he doesn't snore anymore, which is AWESOME for me. Yes, it does make a little noise, but we sleep with a fan on anyway (I need my white noise) and I can't hear it over that.

I hope that you get a mask and that it helps you immensely. Just make sure you sample all the different kinds of masks to get the best one for you--Kirsti has one that covers her nose, and Cody has one that just inserts into his nostrils. I know they also have ones that cover both the noise and mouth. Keep us posted--you need your rest, mama, so do all you can to get it!

My mom has sleep apnea and she used both the mask to cover her mouth (like Kirsti)and the nostril one (like Cody) she said the one that just goes in the nostrils is 1000% better for her.

I know it made a huge difference for her. Good luck!
