Good Morning

It's friday morning...I usually have an especially difficult time getting up at 6:30am on fridays...I suppose it is the whole week's worth of getting up that early that hits me especially hard on friday. Anna & Keith are at school and Kristina & I are enjoying the morning together. Well, actually, Kristina is watching Spongebob right now while I am in here blogging, but I digress...

Our landlord had some handymen replace two of our toilets yesterday. I don't mind having toilets that actually work, but it's odd having two mens in my home without my husband being there, too. It makes me uncomfortable, but there isn't much I can do about it.

Today a lady is coming to clean our bathrooms. I physically cannot deep clean anything right now. I can feel how my body is hindered by the excess weight that I am carrying around. In case you are wondering, I still haven't had my first adjustment for the lapband which is frustrating. There have been problems with getting the paperwork from the actual lapband surgery to the doctor here. It's not in my medical files here in FL and the people in OH say it's not there either and the doctor here says he can't see me without those medical files. *sigh* I hope we'll get something worked out and soon.

I don't remember if I mentioned this or not but Keith is actually doing some chewing with his food. HALLELUAH!!! This is HUGE news. I thought he might eat soft foods forever. He is mainly using his front teeth to bite into things like green beans, etc. It does my heart good to see it. He is progressing. And he's starting to initiate talking more. He will approach me and say things instead of just repeating things back to me.

We recently took advantage of some online clothing sales at Sears and The Children's Place for the kids. Up until now we've mainly bought clothing for the kids from garage sales and thrift stores and while that might (and did) bring some nice clothing, they sometimes looked sloppy. Tyler & I agreed that we wanted for our children to look better, so I hit some clearance sales on the two mentioned websites and I can't tell you what a difference that has made in how my children look each day. It makes me happy. Where do you shop for your kids?

Have you looked into feeding therapy for Keith? Ask his speech therapist about it, it made a world of difference with Eli when he came home. While it's not the most fun thing to do it certainly helped. If the speech therapists at school can't / won't help try the local children's hospital. If you want more info let me know.

i noticed sophie chewed everything only with her front teeth. that wont work well with meats! I kept pointing to her back teeth and my back teeth and told her chew with those teeth. I have even had to teach her to move the bolus side to side. what the heck do these kids eat that they never learned to chew? soup probably. ben had soup every time we were there. glad to hear kieth is making progress!

I can relate to your really feeling the excess weight these days...I'm feeling it more and more and it scares me. I can't put off taking drastic action much longer. I hope you're able to get the paperwork figured out and get that adjustment soon!

Congrats to Keith, too! That's awesome progress :)

As far as where we shop for Joshua, we've generally done sales at Old Navy (online), sometimes Walmart or Target, and then my mom will get clothes from Kohl's. All good places. It also depends on the style you like for your kids, I'm sure. Good for you for being so thrifty!

Yeah for Keith! Yeah for cleaning ladies! Hopefully the paperwork mess can get cleared up so you can get down to business with your lapband adjustments. That's got to be incredibly frustrating, especially after how horrid the surgery ended up being for you.

As for my kids' clothes, we buy all their stuff new. We don't really have anyone around that can hand down stuff to us. We got some for Matthew when we first got home and some of it was big enough that he is still using it and I do keep the classicly styled stuff of Joseph's that is still in good enough condition for him to wear once he grows into them. But beyond that, we do make a point of buying them descent clothes.
The reason we do new, though, is because they already have SOOO much going against them with their other special needs to make them stand out as "different" or "weird", we figured the least we could do is make sure they have descent clothes to wear. It is all that much more important now that we've moved and live in a much more affluent area than we ever have before. We don't even come close to trying to keep up with the neibors, but there are some pretty mean kids out there who pick on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that makes a person different. I can't do anything about congative delays or CP or RAD or PTSD, but I can make sure they are at least dressed descently and "look" normal, at least on the surface.

Sears and Children's Place are great when their stuff is on sale. So is Kohls. We REALLY miss our Target now that we've moved. :-( They are one of the best places to get cute, but very affordable and fairly descent quality kids clothes. I'm also a big fan of Old Navy. It took me awhile to warm up to the place, but now that I have, it's one of the first places I go, especially when they're having a sale! But, I'm not above shopping at Walmart and Kmart, either, as long as I can find descent quality stuff there. Most of it lately has been over priced for it's quality. I'd rather spend a couple bucks more at Old Navy or someplace like that and get stuff that will last awhile.

Congrats on improvement with Keith! I love when my kiddies hit great milestones.

I'm a die-hard thrift store shopper, too. BUT- when you are able to hit great sales at nicer stores...I'm all-over that! It is really nice that I live by a Tanger Outlet Mall. I'll hit them seasonally and buy ahead for the upcoming year with all of the things they have on sale. That allows my children to look nice, have more durable clothes, and still save A LOT of money!

I buy most of our clothes at Old Navy, but a majority is only twice a year. They have one weekend in Jan. and one in July (that's what it's been the past couple years at least) where all clearance tags are an additional half off. I get almost everything for under $5, except pants for D-he's pickier than I am. :)

I shopped at old navy and winners when the kids were younger- sales are great. Have fun dressing your kids now and splurge every once in a while on a special item. Why do I say this? My boys are teens and I have no say in what they wear or buy. They will never wear something I pick out. They look OK but I miss the days when I could pick out an outfit for them! So enjoy shopping the sales for cute items because they will be teens with their own style before you know it!!

6:30 is my wake up time (except when I start work at 5 a.m.), so I feel your pain! Just wait till they start early morning seminary!

I hope the paperwork gets straightened out soon!

I, too, love garage sales and thrift stores. I help the boys match their clothes. I feel we are able to find very nice clothes at second hand stores. (It meets our needs.)

I hope they get your medical record situation worked out soon.
