We cracked some wheat from our food storage and made this recipe. So delicious! I would love to get any recipes from you using wheat. :)

2 great recipes using whole wheat for you! (The waffles make a LOT. I usually freeze some for later or make pancakes the next day with the batter.)

Whole Wheat Waffles

3 cups Whole Wheat flour
1C non fat powdered milk (you’ll get more protein and such if you use the food storage kind that’s not instant.)
1 tsp salt
1 ½ tsp Baking soda
3 eggs
3 C. water
½ c oil
About 1/3 cup of something that will react with the baking soda—applesauce, yogurt, or sour cream.

Mix the dry ingredients so the soda is blended. Add liquid ingredients. You may need to vary the water a little to get the right thickness. Add the applesauce, yogurt or sour cream just before you want to start baking (as opposed to half an hour before and then letting it sit for a while) because it will start reacting immediately with the baking soda. You can add extra wheat germ and probably some soy flour if you want more protein.



Eleanor’s Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

½ cup butter 1 tsp baking powder
1 cup sugar 1 cup white flour
1 cup brown sugar 1 cup whole wheat flour
½ cup oil 1 tsp salt
2 eggs 3 cups oatmeal
1 tsp vanilla 1 ½ cups chocolate chips
1 tsp baking soda

Cream together butter, sugars and oil. Mix in the eggs and vanilla thoroughly. Add dry ingredients. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes
