Falling into 2020

January 1st was the beginning of a new decade. And what better way to start of 2020, than by falling down and hurting myself?

The day started off great, with my making a big breakfast to see Rachel and Briana off back to Missouri, after they came to visit Anna for her 18th birthday.

Once we said goodbye, we began taking down all of the Christmas decorations. I was amazed at Calvin’s leadership skills as he led the other kids in putting away half of the decor before I could even join them.

Tyler and Michael came home halfway through a tree job because Tyler wasn’t feeling well. I thought I would make the bed and set out some comfortable pajamas whilst he took a hot shower. After he climbed into bed, I had one more task ahead of me before leaving the room: filling up the fish tank.

On the second trip from the bathroom to the master bedroom, carrying a gallon of water, something went amiss and I found myself slipping on our very slick tile, and the gallon of water spilled everywhere! I landed on my bum, and winced. Tyler heard me, and jumped out of bed and ran towards me. Unbeknownst to him, the floor was completely wet, and he, too, fell, and rammed into me on the floor. At this point, all I could do was laugh - it was like a scene out of a movie!

The second thing I did was remember that I have a book I wanted to start reading, and I figured that how would be the perfect time to start it - as I already knew I would be laid up for a time.

Tyler and Michael helped me to stand up, and I have been nursing my leg ever since. I have a small bruise and some swelling, with a moderate amount of pain whenever I stand for more than a minute or so. I switch between icing it and using a heating pad. I am debating upon going to an urgent care.

This book has been interesting to read, so part of me feels like I slipped and fell so I could s l o w  d o w n and take some time to work on my emotions - which is, ironically, one of my goals for 2020. Here’s hoping this is my only injury for the year! #fingerscrossed #2020
