Homemade vs. Engineered

We're thinking about possibly going on a vacation in June. My brother is putting in his mission papers and we thought it would be nice to see him before he leaves for Britain or Brazil or Boise...plus my sister is most likely going to Belarus with her husband at the end of this year...I don't know if we'll get to see them if we don't go this summer, although I would like to be there when her baby is born...but I think we can only afford one trip per year.

We're also considering the idea of joining the local YMCA. It was built 2 years ago and is a VERY nice facility. They even have free daycare while you exercise. I figure that I'm going to need that when Anna is out of school during the summer. They also have some water aerobics classes which look like fun and it wouldn't put a lot of strain on my body.

My husband's favorite cake is Angel Food Cake. I recently purchased an Angel Food cake mix to make for tomorrow, but then I thought I should at least try to make a homemade one--since I've never tried it. I've been intimidated about the idea of making it because my Mom said it was really hard to make and when she tried it, it didn't turn out well. (My Mom is an excellent cook!) Well, I put Better Homes & Garden to the test with their recipe for Angel Food Cake. I baked them at the same time (yes, I have two tube pans...I'm not exactly sure how that happened) and am posting a picture of each. Please tell me which one is homemade vs. Engineered. I will say that the homemade cake was difficult to make, but the cake mix looked so "fake" compared to the batter of the homemade one.

Which is homemade? Which is engineered??

I am almost certain cake #2 is homemade and #1 is engineered. You see, my husbands favorite cake is also angelfood. I have made several since we have been together. Like you I thought it would be nice if I tried to make it from scratch one year. First off, it took 15 egg whites. I thought that was crazy, but it worked. It turned out fine, but wasn't much, if any, better to the mix I usually purchased. I decided that it is not worth the effort. Maybe it will be different for you.
