It's time for "the talk"

Well, it's hard to believe that we're already here...I need suggestions of how to teach a 5 year-old about sexual education. I didn't think we would already need to address this topic--but Anna made a statement (note: not a question) about sexual intimacy and used words that we didn't teach her...so we need to address it with her...and...I need your thoughts, prayers, websites, books, & pamphlets. Guide me through this awkward parenting moment!

You Are a Witch (or Warlock)

You are deviously brilliant and a perfect manipulator.
You somehow always end up getting what you want - without anyone knowing you're working behind the scenes.
Crafty and cunning, you can work your way out of any jam.
And it's easy for you to get people to do what you want, whether you're working for good or evil.

Your greatest power: Mind control

Your greatest weakness: Making people your puppets

You play well with: Ghosts

Today was so nice. I was able to spend some time with my husband. I feel like I never see him and I miss just spending time with him. He took me to see a doctor about my foot--it's been hurting me. The doctor said that my tendons are inflammed due to additional activity (opera choreography?) and because my walking shoes are almost a year old--I guess you're supposed to get new walking shoes every 6 months or so. (doesn't fit into our minimal budget, but what can you do?) So it was nice to figure out what it causing my foot pain. Then we went to the commissary--they had large jars of Ragu spaghetti sauce for 99 cents each. We bought 4 cases for food storage. Whenever I see my shelves in the garage stocked with food storage--it just makes me smile. :o)

I went to a recital tonight. She did a fair job. It makes me wonder what my junior & senior recitals will be like...will anyone come?!? This gal had about 25 people show up...is that a good turnout? It seems low to me...that's how many people are coming to my Grandma's house for Christmas this year...lol.

When I had this talk with Philip, I just made sure to use small words.

Seriously, I had to explain it to Elijah when I had Eralee, I just made sure to really emphasize the spititual element of things. Gods role in making babies and also Gods role in allowing men and women to be different. Make sure you know what she really needs to know and what she doesnt. Remember the adage of the mother whose child asked her about where babies came from and she went into this long detailed explanation and at the end the child said, oh so they dont come from Heaven?
Good Luck!!

Just have her watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I think Elmo does an episode about this.

Isn't there a Bollywood version out there of the birds and the bees, but instead it's the Cows and the rice pilafs?

Hi Jill,

I agree with Lauren. Make sure you know what it is that she needs to know, use small words and take baby steps. Just a little at a time. Try to be relaxed, so that she can feel free to come to you whenever she has questions. Unfortunately kids will pick up lots of things in school. At this age she most likely doesn't know what she's talking about. If she says something that sounds sexual to you ask her what she thinks it means, so you know where she's coming from. Take a few deep breaths, be calm, and gentle, and pray for guidance. It's amazing what the Holy Ghost can put into your mind to say to her. :-)

Love, Kathey

Wow. I have not a clue. Be sure to tell me how it goes. I'm probably going to have to do that all soon myself and I have no clue how I'm going to do it.

I really like the advice you have received so far. Excpet for Philip mocking Bollywood. Grrrr. ;)
