One doctor recommended that we have Keith tested for PKU. Tyler has done some research and Keith seems to have several symptoms. Does anyone else have experience with PKU? I'd love to hear more from you on this subject. I guess that all babies born in the US are tested for PKU after they're born, but since Keith was adopted - well, we'll just have to see what the test results are when we get him tested.
I feel like I write a LOT about Keith and not as much about Kristina. Perhaps this is because Keith has more special needs than Kristina and we're taking him to several doctor appointments all the time. Not to worry, Kristina is getting plenty of attention and love and she's adjusting wonderfully in our family. Keith is also adjusting. He is giving us LOTS of smiles now, which is so fun to see. He is also moving around a lot now. Yesterday morning I went into his room and he was underneath his bed. What the? I have no idea how he got off his bed - there's a railing all around the mattress (it's a daybed). He's Mr. Houdini or something. His strept throat is improving and his rash is going away (finally). Keith is allowing Maggie to be closer to him lately. It's a funny relationship - Keith does NOT like Maggie and Maggie LOVES to be near Keith.
Keith seems to be "tolerating" Maggie now.
Tonight we celebrated Saint Nicholas Day - it's supposed to be on December 6th, but I thought it was December 5th...so...hopefully the kids didn't notice...click here for pictures.

I'm so glad the kids are settling in well. Kristina certainly looks like a joyful girl. It's funny that Maggie loves Keith so much. Maybe she can sense his fragility compared to the others and wants to protect him. It's nice.
Glad the kids are getting settled into their little family. The only thing I know about PKU is that is has some dietary restrictions and you have to read labels. It's been so fun to see all the pics of your little cuties!
Sounds like a real blessing for you and the kids to have access to the doctors that you do. I'm sure in time all will be worked out.
I love the pics of Maggie and Keith! Dogs always seem to want to be nearest the person who likes them the least - to be able to win them over. Looks like Maggie is succeeding!
Glad to hear things are settling in. It can be a frustrating process trying to pin down the needs of kids when you missed the first several years of their life. It's now become my life. Enjoy the journey and enjoy watching all your children blossom in ways you never dreamed. I have a whole new appreciation for the significance of "the little things" now!
I have a friend who has PKU. I can get you in touch with her if you would like. Email me offline at shimai at comcast.net. PKU requires a VERY strict diet and a special "drink" to get protein (as regular protein is in most foods that PKU people can't eat).
PKU is a good start. I would also have him tested for Celiac's disease. It can cause weird problems in child. It affects their development more then anything. This becuase in children it can cause severe malnutrition....
