Name That Tune

Okay, so I'm thinking of gearing up for a 5K (don't laugh, it's long enough for me) and so I've been walking the track at that YMCA instead of only workin' it on the elliptical machine. My MP3 player is in desperate need of some new tunes. I am asking (read: begging) you to suggest some pump-you-up tunes (groups or specific songs) that I can add to my list. I am open to foreign languages, hip-hop, dance, techno, anything really...except COUNTRY. I don't care for country music. The one thing I'd ask is that the music not have any curse words in the songs and aren't of a vulgar nature. Of course, I wouldn't imagine the audience of this blog recommending those types of songs to me (that includes YOU, Dana!). So bring it on - I need some motivating music to keep me going!

I don't have any suggestions for you, but when you find them, please share. I'm in need of the same thing.

What's wrong with country?!? Anyways, Don Jovi. I think I spelled that wrong, but anyways, I love him. Good for you for doing a 5K. I'm not laughing. I can't even do the elliptical for more than 30 minutes. Good luck!!

I agree about with Dianah about country. You just need to be selective to make sure it doesn't overdo it on the twang, and you're looking for something that's not a drinking song. There's some great tunes from Sugarland, if you're willing to overlook that country limitation.

Otherwise, Journey's Don't Stop Believin' is awesome, along with Wheel in the Sky. Check out their greatest hits album for a quick reference. And there's the standards like Eye of the Tiger. I like Chicago (the group), 3 Doors Down, Toto (love Africa--btw, they were classically trained musicians who decided to form a rock band, and one of the most successful ones at that), REO Speedwagon. I'm sure I have others, but my collection of recordings legal and otherwise is quite extensive, so I'll have to consider some more.

Have fun.

Howdy Jill,

Just the other day I was thinking that I'd like to have a goal to do a 5K too. I bet you'll get there before I do, but someday I'll join ya!

Love, K
