Sew pretty

So you remember my desire to begin quilting. Well, I have been trying to dress up the master bedroom and bathroom. You know how it is - you decorate the whole house and then you just never get around to getting your room the way you want it. Well, we're renting our house here - I love the house - but I don't love the blue tile. I have been decorating the bathroom with dark brown and I was thrilled to find this fabric with the dark brown and light blue. I think it ties the two colors together quite nicely. :)

I did have one issue with my sewing machine - it was my first time using it - the thread isn't completely tight on both side of the sewing. I think that I need to match up some knobs on the machine - but I don't really know what they all mean...

I looked online for an easy valance pattern, but I didn't find exactly what I was imagining in my mind. So, I just made these without a pattern. There are two panels - is that the right word? I am OCD when it comes to symmetry, so I spent most of the time measuring up everything to make sure that one wouldn't be longer than the other. I am quite pleased with the results!

Oh, Jill, It looks mighty nice to me. You did a fine job as I could never sew. I have never used a sewing machine in my life and using a needle and thread is hard enough! Heh... very nice. I like the color.

Take care.

I don't do complicated sewing like my mom does but have made simpler things like curtains and blankets. It is a great starting place especially when you need to get to know your machine. I have found that the most time consuming thing about sewing is the cutting out part and then dealing with sewing machine issues. My machine does the same thing with the tread and I have to adjust the tension until it is just right. Every fabric seems to have its own "magic" tension. Pretty soon, you will be able to make adjustments quickly when measuring and sewing. Good luck, sewing is so fun (when it turns out well)!

Oooh, I love them! I need to sew, too...I'm afraid of my sewing machine, I think. That and cutting-for the life of me I can't cut a straight line!!!! Aggh!! I'm going to try again this summer...I think...;)
