What's your poison?

So, if you were about to begin a diet - what would be something you'd want to eat (restaurant or homemade) that you'd make sure you ate BEFORE you started a healthier eating program?

Pizza from the Macaroni Grill, a delicious white cupcake with cream cheese frosting and scallops. I couldn't pick one thing. Sorry.

The correct answer is anything and everything that I could get my hands on that I know would be out of bounds later.

Yumm! I need to get back in the dieting game...so this made my mouth water and had the wheels turning...Love Southwest Georgia Pound-cake, Moe's Nachos, anything mexican smothered in cheese, yummmm...!

I love the satisfaction of a clean house! Especially if I can keep it clean for more than an hour! Hooray for your accomplishment!

Also, I just wanted to thank you for your post on the scriptures in action. It touched my heart. Jill, you are such an inspiration to me. Thank you! I love the spirit I feel by simply reading your blog. Your love for the Gospel, our Heavenly Father and Christ shine through you. I love you and just wanted to thank you for the boost you give me, despite the miles.

Any kind of ice cream with Heath Bar in it is my fave... or maybe I could make it worse by visiting Culvers.

Mmmmmm....cheese fries, lots of cheese, desserts, etc....

I've gone back and forth about posting this, because I realize that your situation could be different: a similar question got me into a lot of trouble this semester. Back in January, I thought to myself "Ok, I will start a diet next week, so this week is it for all those yummy foods." I ate more than I ever had that week, and then kept putting off my diet until by the end of May I'd gained a good 15-20 pounds. YIKES, not what I intended at all!

Finally, last Tuesday I just stopped doing that and marched into a Weight Watcher's meeting. Much, much better. I'm now not only eating properly, but I'm also having to eat up to my points allowance, rather than actually cutting down what I eat. If I want to eat something that has higher points (like fries or dessert), I'll just budget my points differently during the day and eat a smaller serving of it.

I'm actually savoring food more than when I ate as much as I wanted, whenever I wanted because I'm eating less of that particular food and so I eat slowly to make it last.

I would recommend WW as an approach because they don't ban any type of food and they focus on the whole picture - not just weight loss, but eating right, exercise, and maintaining weight...though I must say I HATE the idea of WW as a corporation (charging just to go to meetings, plus extra for online tools, and a distinct lack of people my age in the groups). Still, worth a try!

P.S. Good luck in your endeavor - changing one's eating habits is a very hard thing to do and it is rarely fun. It's nice to know that other people out there are doing the same thing - it definitely provides support. I'm going to be doing Weight Watchers this summer in order to lose the 50 pounds I gained in high school/college, so let me know if you need someone to commiserate with/would like some recipe suggestions/have any questions.
